But in all seriousness, Czes has... a grudging respect for Claire. In a way one looks at a jaguar pacing back and forth behind the glass at the zoo and you think, wow, if just a single thing changes, I'm fucked. Except the thing is that Czes knows just how Claire will fuck him up, and in spite of him insisting he has a code of honor about it, he really doesn't.

He's a bit relieved knowing that Claire can't and won't live forever. It might another 15 years, but his time is coming to an end no matter how Ryogo Narita might want to deny it. Having lived to that point in time has erased a majority of Czeslaw's fear in him, because he can remember that Claire is indeed mere mortal.

But the real reason that Czes hasn't nuked Claire off the face of the Port is because he satisfied a secret urge he has to still be punished for killing Fermet. Of course, recently even that's gone, since Fermet has showed himself, and Czeslaw has to face the idea that a lot of his negativity is tied in with his mixed feelings about being tortured. But knowing Fermet is out there has also changed his feelings on Claire.

One: there's something way scarier out there than Claire. Two: maybe if he can somehow learn to get along with Claire, maybe he could get rid of Fermet. Might be the only person capable of it if Huey and Maiza aren't around. So he puts up with Claire in order to know where he's at, because he might need to utilize him later.
