JAKE ADORES NILL. She's been nothing but sweet and friendly to him, and he would pretty much punch someone in the face for doing something that upset her. ... That's not an exaggeration, he would straight up punch a guy for messing with Nill.

Unfortunately he doesn't realize she can shoot or is even capable of self defense, and wants to help protect her from anything and everything. Not that he doesn't think she's capable in a lot of ways, since she seems to be doing find taking care of herself in normal situations (better than Jake did when he first showed up for sure).

He also unfortunately probably has this glorified image of Nill in his own mind, because he doesn't realize any of the emotional struggles she's been through, and takes a lot of the sweet smiles and kind demeanor at face value.
