Emil can't help but assume that Fakir is really very kind, even if he's a little gruff. This is due in part to all the gruff people he knows back home being secretly dere for him, but it's also due to the fact that Fakir really just does seem like he has a good heart - Don't try and hide it, Fakir! Even a blind kid can see it! - and that alone has gained a lot of warmth from Emil. Fakir is, of course, someone he hopes good things for, and someone he's begun to look up to, too; he seems so well-adjusted...! It's admirable! And so Emil feels like maybe he can learn some things from Fakir, but it makes him a little worried... because what if he's not good enough, too slow and helpless, and ends up letting Fakir down by being no good at all? So Fakir works as a bit of a motivator, too: Emil wants to do well, kind of an emulation type deal, so he knows he has to try hard to get on okay in this place.
