All good things...

Hey guys, we come bearing some inevitably bittersweet news for you all.

But first celebrations- We've made it to Year 3! Something which has been a feat in and of itself, considering the small but lively game this started up as, before I'd even joined it. We've survived a migration to Dreamwidth, the comings and goings of characters numbering in the thousands, and a long, healthy run thanks to everybody who has ever called this RP community home.

However, all good things do come to an end, and after some careful deliberation, SP's modteam has decided it's time to begin moving into our final season.

This decision to begin planning for an ending is threefold:

1) As head moderator, I'll be coming up on my second year running SP this March. This responsibility has become a larger and longer commitment than I had initially anticipated; the demands of leadership have exceeded my expectations and have taken their toll on my personal creative stamina. Myself and my comods have discussed prospects for the upcoming year, and we would all like the freedom to be moving on to other projects.

2) Players and moderators alike have been itching for new ideas, fresh plot hooks, and a more direct approach to NPC roles, which we have been unable to produce and execute to our own standards and to your satisfaction. We acknowledge that our full-time availability for OOC communication has been less than ideal. The game's activity and participation as a whole has slowed, and dropping players have expressed concerns about keeping our roleplaying community sustainable. While some of you are still enjoying a slower paced, slice-of-life sandbox setting, Siren's Pull is a game that in concept should be promising much more. Many of the 'whopping big' dynamic changes can't progress into the ugly zone until we're ready to throw a wrecking ball at peaceful life in the city for good.

3) Current moderating team are not the game's original creators and founders, and we'd like to respect and honor their concept and vision for the Siren's Port setting by retiring it well, rather than passing it off to new hands.

We understand that this may seem like a sudden and surprising announcement to some, that others may be thinking it's long overdue, and others may be disappointed by the news and not ready to say goodbye. The good news is that we are definitely not closing up shop overnight, and wanted to announce this decision quickly so that you have plenty of time to wrap up satisfying character arcs, plan for closure, general epic awesomes to come, and decide what you'd like to do next.

Modteam has committed to running the game for an additional three months, working toward accelerating city conflicts and ramping up the stakes, with an endgame tentatively slated for Mid-April.

Newsfeeds will be moved from being posted daily to bi-weekly, with the exception of player-submitted news articles, in order to alleviate more time and creative energy for focus on plot-relevant gameplay. We will be adding longer, plot-relevant news to the feeds, weekly mini-events and OOC updates.

This upcoming open application cycle for February will be our last, and we will be extending it for the full duration of the month, up to a cap of 100 applications. Please don't be discouraged about apping in for our final 'season', we would absolutely love to see a new pile of characters (and maybe the return of some old-familiar faces) to carry through till the end!

January's Activity Check will be our last, with a causal "Are You Sticking Around For Endgame?" check-in happening mid-March, so we can tighten up a finale that caters to our remaining active playerbase. If you would like for your character's ending to be sent home via The Pull, their final days of play will precede the endgame & 'epilogue' logs, which will be for characters remaining to live with this game world's consequences.

We will still be accepting feedback and player plot ideas, so please feel free to use this closed post as space to ask questions, or to give us your remaining 'wishlist' of stuff you'd like to see happen before we close Siren's Pull. If there are any lingering game elements you want the opportunity to use or explore, we will try our best to incorporate these.

Although our decision is already made and finalized with regards to our timeline till endgame, your input for what kind of ending tone you would prefer may influence the direction we choose to ultimately take our closing plot. Are you all for a grim/dark end, a hopeful ending, something middling and open-ended or action/powers heavy?

Thanks for staying on board, and for enjoying the ride thus far. It's been a pleasure and a labor of love making this game happen, and letting go of something so near and dear is not an easy or a casual decision. We look forward to hearing from you, and hope that you will stick around to be a proud part of our last hurrah.
