Getting Mary back is like getting a big, missing piece of his old life back. It's like a little spark of hope that says maybe he is allowed to have a few good things in his life. And he loves her, seriously loves her, in a way that he hasn't loved anything in a long time. Because it's so new, having a mom, having her around. She's always been this untouchable, distant figure throughout his whole life, someone always revered and mourned by the whole family, but who he alone can't remember. So, being allowed to see her, to live alongside her? Is like a miracle. He'd die for her a thousand times over, and not just to repay the favor of what she did for him. Speaking of, he'll never get over that guilt, even if there wasn't anything he could have done, as a six month-old. All the same. He's fiercely protective over her, and forever worries. But he also appreciates every interaction they have for what they are.
